Climate and weather in Panamá

Climate, weather and seasons

Panamá always has a tropical warm and humid climate. So temperatures below 20°C are extremely rare and you can spend the day with light clothes all year round.

You can also drink your wine on the terrace during the nights 365 days a year. The high temperatures in Panamá are around 20°C at night and over 30°C during the day.
Since there are no classic seasons, the year is mainly divided into Verano (summer/dry season) and Invierno (winter/rainy season).

Rainy season - Invierno

From mid-April to December is the rainy season and depending on the region many days are cloudy. However, rain in Panamá does not bring a big drop in temperature like in Germany, but rather a small cooling and refreshment.

Most precipitation falls from September to October, especially in the mountains. By partly very strong rain, there are also floods and the big water ditches beside the roads give your sense and purpose. In the lowlands on the Pacific side it is generally a bit cooler than on the Caribbean coast and on the Pacific side there is less rainfall on an annual average.

Dry season - Verano

The hottest days in the country are in the dry season from mid-December to April. Especially in January there is hardly any rain except for short showers and on the Pacific side December and January are usually the driest months. The low-lying areas along the Pacific side, the capital and the region around Santiago are then often extremely hot, but also the regions to the west of the Caribbean coast. On the Pacific coast, in the mountainous areas and in Chiriqui province, strong winds can also be expected during the dry season.

When is the best time to travel to Panamá?

For beach holidays and adventure trips the dry season in the months of January to March is best. Trips to the beaches, islands or nature parks can also be better planned and organized. For diving this time is also more suitable, because the water is calmer and the visibility is much better.
Many fiestas, events and the popular carnival fall during the dry season. However, depending on the type of travel and destinations, all months of the year are interesting.
In the whale season between August and October you have the chance to see humpback whales on the Pacific coast.

In which time zone is Panamá located?

Panamá is located in the EST (Eastern Standard Time) time zone. Since there is no time change in Panamá like in Europe, the time difference to Germany is -6 hours in winter and -7 hours in summer.
